The Laton Lions Club hosted the Lions International Speech Contest on February 8, 2017.  The Multiple District Four Student Speaker Contest is celebrating its 80th year in this annual contest, which is open to all High School Students in California.  We are all extremely proud of the contest and the platform it gives every California High School student to develop public speaking skills that will return to them a lifetime of benefits.

The topic for this year was "Is the Right to Privacy a Threat to Our National Security?"  The winner for our club is Riley Smith.  She is a sophomore attending Laton High.  Riley is on the travel volleyball team and she also plays on the softball team.  Riley has a love for horses and listening to music.  She maintains all A's and B's on her school work.  Her future goals are to go to Texas AMU and play volleyball for them while majoring in Nursing.  The Laton Lions Club wishes her the best as she continues to compete at the next level in Riverdale on March 11 at 10:00 AM at Riverdale High.  The scholarships offered can total up to $10,000 for the winner of the MD-4 Contest Finals in May.
